The Area

Dating from 1893, the building is situated in an area which has seen many changes. The area is one of economical deprivation, and we are surrounded by pre-war properties used mainly for social and temporary accommodation. However, the wide expanses of playing fields around the school provide a green and pleasant background. Situated off Manor Road, Star is close to both Canning Town and West Ham underground stations and the 276 bus stops right outside the school. We enjoy easy access to the city and outer boroughs via the A13 and we are served by bus routes to the shopping areas of Stratford, East Ham and Upton Park. Car parking is available in nearby side streets.

Accommodation

The school is housed in a large Victorian building of historical interest, with access to the adjoining secondary school's large sports field. We have 19 classes from Reception to Year 6 as well as our nursery. Set on three levels, the classrooms surround a central hall on each floor. These are used for PE, assemblies and other large group activities. Recent improvements include resurfacing of the playground, repainting the lower floor and replacing the windows on the middle and top floors. Over the next couple of years all the windows will eventually replaced.

Visitors can't miss the varied displays of art and craft work around the school as well as murals both inside and outside.

Lower hall (also dining hall at lunch times)

We have several areas for outdoor play around the school with equipment for the children and places to sit and relax. We also have occasional use of the large Easlea field beside the school for sporting events.

We have a school garden where we are growing our own fruit and vegetables and a chicken coop as well!

Early Learning Centre

From early 2005 the school began building a new Early Learning Centre for Reception and Nursery classes. The centre was completed just after Christmas 2006 and we held an official opening on November 13 2006. It is a bright and spacious building with a modern design and we think it will be a great place for the children to learn in.

In 2010 a new playground was built outside the Reception classes at the side of the school which has interactive activities and musical instruments that the children can play with.

Annexe Building

In the annexe building beside the main school building there is a large, pleasant staff room and on the top floor.
